The Art Of Bodyscape Nude Photography

Learn about the Art of Nude Bodyscape Photography from a Master

A bodyscape is a type of photography that focuses on the human body in a landscape setting. The word "bodyscape" is a portmanteau of the words "body" and "landscape." Bodyscape nude photography is a relatively new genre that combines the elegance and artistry of the human form with the beauty of nature. In a bodyscape, the human body is depicted as part of the landscape, rather than as the focus of the image. This can be done by positioning the nude model in such a way that they become part of the scenery, or by using creative camera angles and lighting techniques to make the body appear to be part of the landscape.

How to shoot a bodyscape nude

First make sure you setup your lighting for bodyscape. You can be really creative with it, or you can go very basic. In reality all you need is one light source to create a stunning image. Depending on your artistic vision, you can make your light harsh or soft. Harsh lighting will represent a sunny day, and soft light will be your cloudy day when comparing our lighting with the landscape lighting. Over the head (top lighting) or back lighting is preferred with bodyscape photography because that’s how the sun is. In landscape photography we have one light source, the sun, that is above our head, so in bodyscape nude photography we have to try to mimic the sun and create a similar lighting scenario.

Next, consider the composition of your image. Generally speaking, you'll want to keep the focus on the body parts that looks like the landscape rather than focusing on the model, so look for creative ways to incorporate the body parts into the scene. Shoot from different angles and experiment with different framing techniques. Focus on the curves, lines, texture, high grounds, and low grounds.

Finally, be patient and take your time. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are great photographs. If you find yourself getting frustrated, step away from your camera for a few minutes and take some deep breaths. Remember that practice makes perfect, so don't get discouraged if your first few attempts aren't quite what you were going for. With time and patience, you'll get there!
