Learn the Art of Boudoir and Nude Photography from the Masters
Boudoir photography has become very popular in the past couple of years, and with it individual photographers have influenced the way this genre has been shaped, photographed, marketed, and grown. As of today there are six top influential boudoir and nude photographers who have mastered their craft and taught others the techniques necessary to capture the best results. From different parts of the world, this genre has developed into a style for both models and clients to explore and wish to be a part of, thus making it important for aspiring photographers to learn and master. The individuals below have perfected their craft in a unique and influential way that inspires both photographers and those seeking to be a subject in their photos to look up to.
DAVID DUBNITSKIY
The first photographer with about 1.5 million followers on Instagram is David Dubnitskiy. He is the founder of NYMF, which is a Nude Art Photo Journal App. David is the master of storytelling through the art of nudity. His photographs are Erotic, Seductive, and Sensual with a large focus on production design, set dressing, and wardrobe. The majority of his work is implied nude in a natural, rural, or home environment.
2. SACHA LEYENDECKER
The second photographer we will look into is Sacha Leyendecker from Germany whose work captures boudoir in an everyday-styled setting where the locations and posing allows the nudity to be perceived as a normal aspect of the photograph. This approach is a lovely change by allowing boudoir to be represented as a part of everyday life and allowing others to become more accustomed to it and less shocked by it. His approach led to fellow photographers becoming more comfortable with shooting boudoir as well as models and clients to be more open to the genre. Recently Sacha’s Instagram account was banned, but you can find his work on his 500px account.
3. PETER COULSON
The third photographer, Peter Coulson from Australia, takes a different approach to boudoir by working more with glamour styled images where implied is used. His photoshoots tend to be black and white and focus on emotion and the way the body conveys it. He has stepped outside the traditional “beautifully” posed boudoir photos and focused instead on what the body “feels;” using it instead to convey the subject’s emotion. This has shaped the way photographers shoot boudoir by focusing on posing more in their own style and incorporating Peter’s technique. Although Peter runs and active Instagram account, he is well-known for his YouTube channel with Bec.
4. DAN HECHO
Photographer Dan Hecho from Ukraine has won multiple awards for his groundbreaking work in boudoir photography and the obscure. His photographs take a subject and allows for a sensen of eeriness to take over by using props such as lace fabric to cover their face, or working with intricate shadows. Like Peter, Dan focuses on expressing emotions through body language where nudity is portrayed as sexy yet vulnerable. Dan has a unique editing and color grading style that is only unique to him and is popular on Instagram.
5. YULIYA PANCHENKO
The fifth photographer, Yuliya Pancheko, has an outstanding boudoir and nude collection and work through a different take. Her award winning work elevates boudoir to a high end level that is elegant. Her approach to boudoir has raised the standards of the genre and made it high fashion, quality oriented, and sexy. Yuliya has brought forward the industry in showing that the genre can be just as editorial as other photography styles, thus bringing it to light. Her work focuses on intricate posed shots at times while keeping it natural and delicate on others. Bringing all styles of boudoir into one. She is also the founder of Believe in Boudoir, which is one of the largest boudoir photography educational platforms in the world. Yuliya Panchenko is also known for her educational boudoir photography tutorials on YouTube and Instagram.
6. MICHAEL SASSER
The last photographer is Michael Sasser who focuses on a more traditional look of boudoir while working with posing. His photography goes back to the root of boudoir by keeping the sensual touch in a modern setting. His work has influenced the idea of keeping the traditional boudoir and spicing it up. Currently Michael Sasser is the top boudoir photographer on YouTube with over 150K subscribers.
What all six photographers have in common is their ability to capture a style of photography that has been around for years and bringing it to new levels of professionalism and experimental techniques. They teach us that photography is an ever learning craft which creativity and vision play a large role in. Cameras are the equipment, everything else is in the photographer's eyes and ability to capture a story.
